Nysa

Nysa (Czech: Nisa; German: Neisse) - a city in the province Opole, in the Nysa poviat, the seat of the urban and rural commune of Nysa. The city is located on the border of the Sudeckie Przedgórze and the Śląska Lowland, and the Nysa Kłodzka River flows through it. December 31, 2015, the city had 43 220 inhabitants.

The name of the city derives from the river flowing through the city of Nysa Kłodzka.
In the vicinity of Nysa, there are artificial water reservoirs: Nyskie Lake (also known as Głębinowski Lake), slightly further Otmuchowskie Lake.





Nysa, despite many war damage (over 50% of urban development) and demolition of 103 historic tenement houses and a church in the city center just after the war by the Polish authorities, has many historic buildings.



On the list of monuments of Nysa there are, among others:
  • Old Town
  • church parish St. James the Elder and Saint. Agnieszka, cathedral square, dating from the XV-XIX centuries,
  • belfry from 1474 - XV century,


  • church parish team St. John the Baptist, Księdza Ściegiennego street,
  • church Annunciation from the first half of XIV century,
  • cemetery church of the Holy Cross - Jerozolimski from 1633,

  • urban planty from the middle XIX century,
  • city park, from the middle XIX century,
  • defensive walls, from the 14th century to the 16th century, 
  • and many other valuable monuments.
