The reservoir closes the Nysa Kłodzka catchment with an area of 2352 km². Its capacity, estimated in 2001 again in connection with the sedimentation of river sediments, measured to the amount of the overflow (215 m above sea level), amounted to 130.45 million m³.

The official commissioning of the Ottmachauer See reservoir and the launch of the hydroelectric plant took place on 17 June 1933. The four-ton hydroelectric power station located at the outflow has two Kaplan turbines with a total capacity of 4.8 MW and supplies the country's power grid. The flow is 2 × 21.5 m³ / s, with a level difference of 16 m.
