Kasprowy Wierch

Kasprowy Wierch is mountain in the Western Tatras. It is one of the most popular ski areas in Poland and its peak is accessible by cablecar. Kasprowy Wierch is 1987 metres high (6519 ft) above sea level and it delineates the border between Poland and the  Slovak Republic.

We decided get out of "Kuźnice", it's district of Zakopane where start many tourist trails. To Kuźnice you can go on foot from Bronisława Czecha street in Zakopane around 20-25 minutes or go by mini bus from the same street around 5-7minutes.

We preferred go on foot, and in Kużnice next to cable car turned to yellow trail go through beautiful "Dolina Jaworzynka".

Altitude difference is 945 metres, sometimes is quite steeply up, but the trail is well prepared and labeled for walking in the mountains.

"Jaworzynka" valley is beautiful, everywhere in the near are huge mountains covered with perfectly green trees, we went through it and were impressed.

After 1:30 hours we came to "Przełęcz między Kopami" it's situated at a height 1492 m amsl, out of here you can enjoy the valley in all its glory.

It's wonderful place and we will be happy if we can stay here longer, but we had to go further, because less than half an hour walking from it waiting for us "PTTK Murowaniec" shelter.

Shelter "PTTK Murowaniec" - mountain hut in the Tatra mountains at an altitude 1500 m above mean sea level, currently have 120 beds in room from 2- to 6 beds or dormitories. Shelter "Murowaniec" was established in the years 1921-1925, and was built by the Polish Army.

Subsequently we head towards Kasprowy Wierch, through the Hala Gąsienicowa, where around us were amazing views and where is chairlift mainly used in the winter for skiers.

Meteorological Observatory Kasprowy



Meteorological Observatory Kasprowy - the Observatory is located in the uppermost building in Poland, located at an altitude of 1987 m above mean sea level, on top of Kasprowy Wierch. Building meteorological observatory on mount Kasprowy was built between 1936-1937 to a design by Alexander Kodelski and Anna Kodelska and the uppermost building in Poland became in September 1939 after the occupation by the Soviet observatory in Pop Iwan. Currently, the observatory takes measurements from synoptic and climatological, and observations of glaciation, rainfall, solar radiation, optical phenomena, radioactivity, and the gravity and astrophysics.

At the top was misty and visibility was poor, but several dozen meters below were beautiful views across the Tatras.

Eventually our trip lasted about seven hours, but it was a pleasantly spent time and we certainly don't regret it.
